There is a new way to prevent hair loss in cancer patients according to WLS Chicago. They circulate a coolant through a silicone. This causes the blood flow to hair follicles to constrict. By cooling the scalp the chemotherapy is prevented from getting into the hair follicles.
A study involving 20% participants with breast cancer was done to test this new hair loss solution. Dr. Ezra Cohen says that this solution has been around for a long time and the newer techniques are a big improvement. Some report success rates as high as 70%.
Cold caps that are frozen are placed on the head, but they have to be switched out every 30 min.
There are some skeptics and doubters when it comes to this new cold hair loss treatment.
Some experts are worried that this particular method could leave a place for cancer cells to hide during the therapy sessions.
However, this method is widely used in Europe and Asia with safe and effective results. Cancer patient should take note that many of the new cancer drugs don’t have the same hair thinning side effects as the older drugs. This therapy might not even be necessary in the near future.
Currently the cold cap Treatment is available in the United States. The FDA has not given its stamp of approval for this particular type of therapy.
