Hair loss is a source of embarrassment for both males and females. While there are proven drugs that help with the treatment of hair loss some people would rather not deal with the potential side effects of prescription drugs. There are many different natural options out there for people looking for alternatives.
However, you should understand the causes of your hair loss before trying any of these products. You should consult a doctor if you’re experiencing hair shedding because it might be a sign of a more serious medical condition.
For genetic hair loss problems you might want to look into natural treatments that specifically target DHT. Saw palmetto is a very popular supplement for people looking for a natural DHT blocker. There is a lot of information on the web about saw palmetto and its potential for dealing with DHT. However, there is no evidence proving the effectiveness of saw palmetto at treating hair loss.
Saw palmetto doesn’t have the clinical trials backing it. Clinical trials are often very expensive and you can’t patent a herbal treatment. So no pharmaceutical company would pay to test a herbal supplement that could potentially compete with their pharmaceutical drug.
Even among supporters saw palmetto isn’t considered as strong as the FDA approved drug Propecia (finasteride).
Massaging the scalp with essential oils has become popular recently. Using a carrier oil like jojoba as a base, then add 10 to 15 drops of a variety of different oils like lavender, spearmint, cedarwood, and thyme. Of course, something like this isn’t likely to help you.
You should wait to perform an essential oil massage until right before or during a shower. That way you can shampoo afterwards and get all the oil out of your hair.
I wouldn’t say that natural treatments are necessarily ineffective but, I would say that there is a lot of room for error. So if you’re not diligent then I would suggest you look at another form of treatment.
With FDA approved drugs like minoxidil and finasteride they have a track record of working despite any bad habits you might have.
You might want to look into a treatment that combines natural ingredients with a powerful FDA approved drug.
